                                                     What is EFT?

You might call it “emotional acupuncture without needles.” It’s a painless method that relieves emotional distress, sometimes in minutes, and can also relieve physical ailments and pain as well.  Instead of using needles, you tap with your fingertips on key spots on your face, hands, and body -- spots that correspond to energy meridian points the Chinese have known about for centuries. While tapping, you repeat a phrase addressing your negative issue. This process which apparently balances disruptions in the body’s energy system, causes your emotional upset or your physical problem to fade away. I know it sounds crazy, like something that couldn’t possibly work! Everybody thinks that ... before they experience it. When I first read about EFT, I was sure it was a scam. It sounded too good to be true. And I’m sure you think that right now. However...

Keep in mind: If you’ve been looking for relief from certain emotional problems, depression, or pain, for a long time, it just might be worth trying this simple exercise, no matter how superficial it sounds. What do you have to lose?

Some people ask if they have to believe in EFT for it to work. Well, the truth is EFT works whether you believe or not.  But, hey, even turning on a light with a switch requires a belief the light “might” turn on before a person will decide to flip that switch. With some new things, you just have to suspend your "disbelief" for a trial period while you do some reading on the subject. I once spoke to a relative who refused to consider EFT because I had no controlled double blind university research studies to show him. He didn’t care if I could walk him through the process in 5 minutes so he could experience immediate relief.  And I'm talking about a medical doctor with a closed mind. I hope your desire for emotional or physical pain relief is strong enough that you will learn and use this simple healing exercise.  

I’ll admit EFT does not work on all issues all the time. And while many people experience one-minute-wonders, some issues take more work. But even your car may have a problem starting occasionally. Right? It could be out of gas, or have an ignition problem. Or there might be a short in the electrical system. Get my point? We all know there are good reasons why things don’t always work, but we also know there are usually ways to fix them.

EFT Recognizes The Emotional Foundation of Physical Problems

If you think about it, we’ve always known about a connection between negative emotions and the body’s response to those emotions. Consider the term “stress headache.” On some level, we know stress can cause a headache. The following are other physical responses most of us agree can be brought on by emotional upset: heart palpitations, high blood pressure, neck ache, back ache, stomach ache, fatigue, sweaty hands, insomnia. EFT practitioners have discovered that many forms of pain and physical ailments disappear after underlying emotional distress is relieved with this fascinating tapping technique.  In fact, when you look at a list of successfully treated negative issues, it seems beyond belief.  But then history has shown many famous so-called “authorities” could not see beyond their limited beliefs when it came to new innovations

Deadly Emotions, a book by Don Colbert, M.D. - never mentions EFT, but does explore the relationship between emotions and illness. On the book’s cover, he suggests the following:

1. Anger and hostility may trigger hypertension and coronary artery disease.

2. Resentment, bitterness, unforgiveness, and self-hatred may trigger
   autoimmune disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis.

3. Anxiety may trigger irritable bowel syndrome, panic attacks, mitral
   valve prolapse, and heart palpitations

4. Repressed anger may trigger tension and migraine headaches, chronic
   back pain, TMJ, and fibromyalgia.

Chronic Pain is Determined by Emotions, Scientists Believeis an article posted July 2, 2012 at the UK Telegraph that begins, "Emotions may determine why some people are more likely to suffer chronic pain than others, a study has found." EFT practitioners have known about the emotion/pain association for years. So when I read at the end of that article: ''Now we hope to develop new therapies for treatment based on this finding,'' I had to chuckle, because these scientists are a bit late on this issue. EFT has been working wonders and relieving all kinds of pain rapidly without medical interventions since the 1990s.
